50 Headwraps for patients at the Indira cancer trust 2025

“You have cancer” may be the most heart wrenching words somebody ever hears…

To celebrate 50 years of the Sri Lanka Association of Washington D.C Slaw DC, we arranged 50 Ensure nutritional supplement cans and 50 head wraps/Jataa for ongoing chemotherapy cancer patients at the Maharagama Indira Cancer Trust on the 27th of November 2025.

We carefully handpicked Jataa.lk, founded by Mrs Caroline Jurie (Former Mrs World 2020) as their main goal is to un-brand cancer and make it a global fashion statement empowering the fight against cancer.

This specific Jataa collection by Mod'Art International - Sri Lanka was stitched by a young designer who didn’t have a permanent job, as one of Jaata’s key principles is to provide work-from-home opportunities for single mothers and young women, empowering them to earn from home.

Further, the 50 lactose-free variety of the Ensure nutritional supplement was carefully chosen to give ongoing chemotherapy patients essential nutrients when they can’t consume enough from regular meals, supporting recovery and treatment tolerance, helping maintain strength, preserve muscle, and prevent malnutrition for these patients. Ensure is also released only by prescription in Sri Lanka, allowing the most needy to benefit from it.

We would like to thank Dr Lanka Jayasuriya and the staff at the Indira Cancer trust, Mrs Caroline Jurie and team, the officials CIC holdings for going above and beyond to facilitate this project. This project was sourced by the proceedings of 50th anniversary Gala auction that went towards to the Breast cancer awareness project.
